History: "A passion for daylilies" Pinecliffe Gardens started with a love of gardening and an attempt to successfully hybridize daylilies. Don and Kathy Smith developed the initial gardens of Pinecliffe as a landscape heaven, at their home on a 14 acre site in Floyds Knob, Indiana to enjoy with their family and friends. They collected and hybridized daylilies and started selling to other hybridizers in the United States during the late 60's and early 70's as their reputation grew.

Soon the local TV and newspaper folks heard of the beautiful and unique gardens at Pinecliffe and asked if they could do a human-interest story about the Smith's and their daylily display gardens. Fred Wiche and Dianne Heilenman produced TV shows and newspaper articles within weeks of each other and Pinecliffe Gardens became a regional attraction overnight. Don and Kathy allowed potential customers and garden clubs to tour the gardens by appointment only and visitors grew to over 4000 per year during the bloom season. During this time Don continued his hybridizing program and introduced over 150 new cultivars into commence. Some of the more famous included FRED WICHE, CINDI SULLIVAN, JEAN OHLMANN and ROGER SWAIN. Pinecliffe has customers in over 29 countries. The Queen of England has been purchasing plants from Pinecliffe for a number of years, "check out the Queen Collection", and is Pinecliffe's most noted customer.

After many years of building one of the leading daylily operations in this part of the country, Don and Kathy have handed the day to day operations and entrusted the future of Pinecliffe Gardens to Tony, Val and Clay Manley. While Don will not be as active in the day to day operations, he will continue with Pinecliffe's hybridizing program. Now that Don can devote more time to hybridizing, you can anticipate some stunning new introductions that will "Knock your socks off".

While the beautiful setting in the Floyds Knobs, IN had been the home of Pinecliffe Gardens for many years, in order for us to continue to grow and service you, we needed to relocate. Our next location was in Louisville, KY in the eastern part of Jefferson County, on 48 acres resting alongside the lazy waters of Floyds Fork. In 2002, Michelle and Jeff Jones purchased Pinecliffe Gardens and relocated the endeavor to Philpot, KY. Whether you're strolling through the display beds with over 1200 different daylily cutlivars, picking out your favorite hosta, with over 300 to choose from, or finding that special "unnamed" hybrid seedling for a loved one or your personal enjoyment, you won't soon forget your visit to Pinecliffe Gardens.

• Order Online: You have the convenience of ordering online from our secure site. So feel safe in using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover.

• Minimum Order: There is a $25.00 minimum order. (excluding S/H and sales tax for KY address)

• Shipping and Handling Charges: All orders have a base fee of $9.00 and an additional charge of $0.25 per plant. Shipping rates may vary on non-daylily items.

• Sales Tax: All orders inside Kentucky will be charged sales tax.

• Substitutions: No substitutions will be made without customer approval first.

• International Orders: We ship international orders with a minimum of $500.00 per order. Proper certification and / or labeling provided by customer, plus shipping and inspection charges at cost with prepaid shipping amount of $50.00 added to the minimum charge.

Guarantee: All plants are guaranteed to be healthy, disease free, true to name, and have a good root system. All plants will be double divisions, unless otherwise noted. If for any reason your not satisfied, leave original tags on and return plants within 10 days for a full refund. We build our business on long term relationships and we "will" make you happy.

Shipping Season: Our shipping season starts when weather permits. Usually this is in early May, depending on the last frost or when our plants are ready. We ship all season long: May 1^st - October 15^th.

We usually use Priority Mail and UPS, whichever we feel will deliver your plant the quickest.

Bloom Season: Our season runs from June 15^th through August 1^st

Bloom Season Garden Hours: Our gardens are open from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. CST on Friday and Saturday and 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. CST on Sunday. Tuesday - Thursday, call for appointment only and for clubs and group tours. Closed Monday.

Group Visits: This is an AHS display garden. Clubs and group tours are welcome. We can give tours and arrange seminars and educational programs. Please call ahead to book your date.
